Rik Midgley - Choose Compassion for self and others - Welcome

In my passion for world peace, I long for people to know and love themselves, and so to step towards self responsibility and build safety in the world. I understand this as a process of nurturing kindness and compassion, of growing acceptance and forgiveness for both self and others.

My journey is of befriending the body with its world of feelings and emotions, and a moving towards inner harmony, with freedom from cultural and traumatic conditioning. It is the welcoming the tangible flow of life within with a loving acceptance that there is nothing broken needing to be fixed, an openness to its ever changing flux, and a trusting that its message is solely for the enrichment of life. It is an invitation to live in wholeness and wellbeing, in love of the wonder of life.

This awareness and love, is transformational to how we think and speak. Living in connection to our deep values brings authenticity and congruence to our words and thoughts, while inviting space and curiosity to ‘what is alive’ in others, supporting the creation of mutually satisfying relationships.

I am an internationally certified trainer of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and have over 30 years of practical experience of introspective techniques of meditation and movement. I offer:

One-to-One Somatic and Empathic Coaching sessions holding space for inner exploration and healing.

Compassionate Mediation nurturing transformation and connection for couples and small groups.

Nonviolent Communication Workshops in authentic heart connected communication with the empowerment of a body centred approach.

Awareness with Movement sessions to awaken the feeling body, to build connection and grow in understanding of the mind-body relationship.


Returning to a grounded body aware perspective of life is the empowerment to live in awareness of deeper values and beliefs. It brings the resilience to be free to make choices based on both the body’s tangible yearnings and our intellectual understanding. It enables us to be at peace with ourselves, to feel safe in our own body, to be self-connected and experience the harmony of speaking with congruence. There comes a recognition that effective connection with others is not through intellectual discussion and finding agreement, but rather through a felt sense of how safe and harmonious we can feel in presence to each other.

There are awareness processes such as meditation and yoga that invite awareness of the body. Nonviolent Communication is an awareness process which uses the media of language to focus upon the relational. Attending to how we communicate is a ‘doorway’ into our deeper vulnerable selves, revealing the underlying energy driving our words and thoughts. Growing in awareness and understanding of our choice of words is an invitation is to walk towards ourselves, compassionately embracing what is presently alive, nurturing the space for forgiveness and growth. Connecting with ourselves with this loving kindness, empowers us to hold others with open loving curiosity, nurturing trust and mutual connection.
